We also made another small cookie gift for Mrs. C, she works in the school office and she made sure that the school runs smoothly everyday. The kids might not have a direct involvement with her as she doesn't teach them, but she works hard to ensure the day to day running of the school. So we thought it would be nice to make her a small gift to say that "we really appreciate all you do".
This is what we gave her and eventho its only a small gift she told us that it means a lot to her :)

This is our first attempt at making a flower bouquet, i told my hubby that sometimes flowers can be a waster of money as they wither and die quickly....well this is my kind of flower, the sweet one that we can eat and enjoy :)
Its actually really easy to make as we used a royal icing transfers, which means the red roses were pre-made and ready to use in our container where we keep all our royal icing transfers.
Once we placed all the red roses randomly on top of the cookie, we add a few dots of pink and white and do a little squiggly lines on top to make it look like a flower bud - see picture below.
And lastly add the stems and the leaf randomly to fill the gaps.

Hope this little gift brings her joy and made her day brighter ;-)

Its the last day of Term 1 at the kid's school today and it happens to be Logan's teacher last day as she is moving away to the UK. So Logan has been asking us to make thank you cookies for his teacher as he has really enjoyed having her as his class teacher for this term.
So we made a very simple set with a new honey cookies recipe, which we just tried out and really loved!

We have posted a tutorial on how to make the stubby pencil in our previous blog post when we made another Teacher's set for their school principal, if you want to check it out you can click HERE.
However this time we took step by step photo tutorial for the crayons and the little roses, which was borrowed from Sugarbelle designs :)
Here is how you make the stubby crayons (similar to what Crayola's crayon looks like).
Very simple, flood the cookie with blue icing, and let it dry. Then add the middle black icing and squiggly lines on top and bottom of the crayons (see picture below).
Something went funky with our blue icing and it went a bit grainy as you can see below....but luckily it works with how crayons really look like, so we leave it as it is :)

For the simple roses, we made it using strawberry cookie cutter as we didn't have any roses cutter. We just cut the tip as we were cutting the dough (sorry i forgot to take a photo of it).
First step is to flood the rose area with red icing and let it dry. Then with a stiff consistency icing, made the swirly rose buds (see photos below), then lastly add the 3 little leaf at the bottom using any leaf tip you have.

That was all, very simple and yet very effective for a thank you cookie set :) Here is the set we have packaged up for Logan's teacher.
Hope Ms. Stephenson will have a wonderful last day at school today! We will miss you and thank you for being such a great teacher :)

We received a special order for a barnyard animal cookies from a lovely lady in New Plymouth :) They own a Jersey Cow farm so she wants some farm animal cookies for her daughter's birthday this weekend. She specifically requested horses, cows, yellow chick and piggies. The cows had to be light brown so that it will look like Jersey cows of course ;-)
We took photo tutorial on how to make the cows, yellow chicks and the piggy, but unfortunately we didn't get a chance to take any photos of the horses as they were done late at night.
Lets start with the cows :)
These cookies are very simple to make, start with outlining the face shape of the cow and fill the face area & the top of the ear area with light brown flood consistency icing and let it dry. When the light brown icing has dried mark off the areas of the cow's spots with edible markers (see picture below).
Next is fill the mouth area and the bottom of the ear with light pink icing, let it dry. Lastly add the details, fill the spots eyes and mouth with chocolate brown icing, and their nose with pink icing.

The pigs are also really easy and simple :) Start off with round pink icing and add 4 little legs at the bottom. Don't forget to also add their cute curly tails and let it dry.
Next add the pig's face and little feet, and let it dry. Lastly add the nose with a slightly darker pink icing and eyes with black icing.
Next add the pig's face and little feet, and let it dry. Lastly add the nose with a slightly darker pink icing and eyes with black icing.
Last one is the yellow chick. Mark off the area of its body and wings. We started with filling the white belly area, then with an outline consistency yellow icing piped the body and wings, then fill it with flood consistency yellow icing, and let it dry. Next step is to pipe the orange colour icing for the feet, and lastly we add the details, such as its beak, eyes and top of the head with red icing.
Just to show you the finished result, these are all the animals together :) We tried making the cow with white spots (bottom right corner) but we liked the chocolate brown spots better :P
That was all, these are very easy, simple and adorable to make, hope this will encourage you to give it a go and try making these cuties. You don't even have to have a specific cookie cutter as you only need to have round cutters, which you can get easily ;-)
We hope these will go down a treat for the Sara's birthday party this weekend!

Well i've been asked to make birthday party favours for one of my girlfriend as her son is turning 3. To be perfectly honest I wasn't expecting to make another batch of Toy Story cookies again after the last one, but i couldnt say no as this one is for Javien's birthday party....i guess the moral of the story is never say never again lol :P
I have posted the tutorial of how to make Buzz and Woody in my last Toy Story cookies blog post, if you missed it you can check it out HERE.
So this time i will show you how to make the green aliens instead :)
So we start by flooding the cookies with white icing. When the icing is dry we draw the outline of the alien shape into the cookie with an edible marker. Then after that, we start with the airbrushing .
This is the part that i haven't been able to take photos of before as its hard to take photos and do the air brushing at the same time....so this time i have acquired assistance from my lovely daughter :)
Prepare your stencil design that you want showing into the cookie and place it on top of the cookie. Then get the airbrush gun and attached it into the compressor and turn it on. Put the airbrush colour into the cup on top of the gun - see the picture below showing you how everything fits together.
We put a 3 drops of yellow airbrush colour and 3 drops of vodka to dillue the colours a bit.

Then press the airbrush button just behind the cup so that it will start spraying the colours into the cookie - see picture below of what it looks like after you have sparyed the colours into the cookie.
Then remove the stencil to show the finished airbrushed result - this is what your cookie will look like :)
NOTE: Make sure you put some tissues or rag clothing underneath so it wont spray into your table or the surface that you are spraying on.

Okay so now that the cookie is ready to be decorated with icing we start with the green icing for the face area and the ears. Leave the eyes area empty so that we can fill it in with white icing later :)
The next step is to pipe the the blue icing for his top and the purple icing for his collar. Also add the green antena and let it dry. Then add the white icing for his eyes, while its still wet add a dot of black icing and a white dot inside for his pupil. The last step is to piped the details of his mouth, ears and eye lids.
There you go....after the cookies are done just need to add packaging and ready for the party :)
We had such a great time at the party, hopefully all the kiddies enjoyed the cookies :)

Its the last day of Easter, so we just want to wish you a Happy Easter and also share the last of our Easter cookies that we made just for our family :)
We didn't take any progress photos of any of these cookies as they were made in between of making other cookies from spare cookies that we have. Just so that we still have some Easter cookies to share for our family.
We also got this really cute small bunny plate and had to take photos of the cookies with it :)

We didn't get a chance to make a lot of Easter cookies this year as it happen to fall around the time of a lot of kids birthdays, so we've been busy making birthday cookies these past weeks. However, we did have a stash of chocolate cookies that we have saved up and we managed to sneaked-in these egg nests and one bunny cookie in between of decorating other cookies :)
We've seen these egg nests cookies around, so we want to try making them. Its a bit out of proportion but seeing that its out first egg nest cookies we are still happy with it :)
We started with flooding the egg shape cookies with 'sea green' icing colour, you can use light blue or turquoise if you don't have this colour, they all will work with the brown tones.
Then use a brown edible marker to draw the tree and where the nest will sit. We want to use 3 eggs inside so unfortunately the nest ended up a bit bigger than the original plan.
We made the nest as a royal icing transfer, i will post the picture of just the nest below the decorating progress photo just to show you .
This is the step by step progression photo.

Here is the royal icing transfer as it dries out before we put the mini chocolate speckled eggs into it.
Make sure you piped the icing to create a wider opening on top to make it easier for the eggs to nestle into it. If your opening is too narrow you will only fit either 1 or 2 eggs only. See photo below.

So it doesn't matter how you piped the icing to make the nest, it depends n what you want to have, you can have only 1 egg or 2 eggs or 3 eggs in the nest, you can piped it according to what you need :)
Here are the samples of what we have with different quantity eggs in the nest.

Have a play with the icing to create the nest, i used a very stiff consistency icing to make these. Just keep piling the icing on top to create the nest look :) That's all you need to do and when they have dried you can stick them on top of your cookie with a little bit of royal icing.
Have a great Easter Sunday! Hope everyone is enjoying their extra long weekend and having quality family time ;-)

My boy turns 6 today, and when he requested special birthday cookies how can we refuse? :)
He told me he wants 'Plants vs Zombies' cookies, its a game that he plays in the iPad with his dad each day, apparently there is a 'daily event' that you have to do in the game that earns you points *insert roll eyes emoticon here* boys and their toys...some things never change I guess :P
So Logan and I sat down together and I asked him to choose a few of his favorite characters from the game....here are the characters that he has chosen :)

And as you can see here, a very happy boy indeed with his birthday cookies....worth all the trouble ;-)
Now i really tried documenting how to make these cookies but I had to race thru them as i'm working on them alongside another set of cookies for a dear friend of mine for another birthday this week. Apparently March is a very busy month for birthdays!
Anyway, I managed to take the before photos of the characters...here they are with base white icing and hand drawn with edible markers.

I took a photo of some of the characters while i was putting green icing on their green leaves & stalk. But after that i was too busy trying to finish of the cookies in time that i totally forgot to take any further progress photos. Here they are in mid-progress....
And here are the characters after they are all done and completed :)
And here are the whole set of cookies in the gift box ready to be given to the birthday boy :)
Happy birthday Logan, we love you lots like jellytots! :)

This is our first time making mermaids, we have been wanting to try this out for a while but never got a chance to do it until now. These batch of cookies were made from strawberry cookies recipe from Patty Mac Cookies, we had the previllege to have her as guest in our house for a weekend of cookie decorating get-together :) She is a very talented lady and also very knowledgeable in cookie decorating stuff, the things that we have learned from her is so totally invaluable. Thank you Patty, you are so awesome! ;-)
To make these cuties, we start with filling in face and the tail area. We use skin colour icing for the face (a bit of ivory and a smidgen of pink) and we use "sea green" Progel food colouring for the tail area.
Then mark the areas for her body and fill in with the same skin colour icing, let ir dry.

The next step is to flood the area for her hair, we used 'Chestnut' progel food colouring and with a stiff icing outline her hair stands. Next we added the white flower (this is a royal icing transfer that we have stashed away) and then add the texture for her tail area.
The last step is to add the pink shells on her chest area and paint the tail with a combination of turquise green and yellow gel colours.

So that is the step by step decorating progress that i managed to take pictures off...there are a few missing steps that i wasn't able to take a photos as I was in the process of experimenting and trying out new things, hence this is my first mermaid cookies :)
Hope everyone is having a great midweek and that the rest of the week will go smoothly ;-)

These Batman cookies are probably ther fastest turn around cookies we've made so far. We had a bit of a mis-communication via email so it was a bit rushed but we are happy that we managed to finish them on time for the birthday party :)
We also used our new toy for this cookies, we just recently got a new dehyrator and it cuts down the drying time so we dont have to wait around for so long. We just love it and wished we had gotten it sooner! :P
These cookies are reasonably simple to make BUT i didn't realised how much pressure it was to pipe perfect oval/circle into a cookie until this order! The black border around the cookies were pretty hard to get perfectly oval...i realised half way thru piping those black icing that I was holding my breath the whole time my piping bag was going around the cookies LOL :P
So here are the step by step progress:
STEP 1:
We used black outline consistency icing for thhe border. Here they are after the black border was piped....you can see the mistakes i made but luckily it will be covered by the yellow icing so you wont see it in the finished result :)

Use 15-20 second icing for the black bat on these cookies, its easier this way so we can just use one icing with one consistency to pipe the Batman logos onto the cookies.

Last thing to do is packaging, individually wrapped in cellophane with personalised tags so that it will be easy to put them into party loot bags :)
So there you go, just 4 simple steps but requires a lot of concentration from us to get it looking right.
We hope the cookies will be a wonderful treat for the birthday party this weekend :)

I have been wanting to do these cookies since we took the kids to watch the Peanuts Movie a few weeks ago. And finally had some down time to get it done as we have been busy with a lot of things going on.
My personal favorite is the Snoopy on the top left, which one is your favorite? ;-)
My personal favorite is the Snoopy on the top left, which one is your favorite? ;-)
These cookies were so much fun to make, and because they are on a rectangle cookies you dont have to own any particular cookie cutters! Sweet! ;-)
So we started off with flooding the cookies with a white base icing and let it dry. When the base icing is dry use an edible pen or marker to draw the characters on top of the white icing. These will act as a guide as you decorate your cookies - see the picture below.

Now on to the hardest part of the decorating process....airbrushing time! I found this to be the hardest part as im still learning how to use it properly. I just got my airbrush tool from eBay and have been practising how to use it but still have a lot to learn on how to handle it properly.
For me its hard to get an even distribution of airbrush colours all around the cookies. Just a side note from my learning experience of using the airbrush, use it in a good light. Don't be like me and start using it at night when you can't even see the colours spraying out! lol >.<
We mixed 1/3 orange & 2/3 yellow airbrush colours and put it into the airbrush cup. Spray all around the cookies and be sure to start off with light spray as you can layer it up to build the colour.

Okay so once the airbrushing are done, we can start decorating with icing and painting gel colouring.
Lets start with the simplest one - Charlie Brown cookie.
Start with using skin colour icing for his head area, wait for a few minutes until it dries a bit and add his ear, neck and arm - see picture below. Then fill in the rest of his yellow top and the black chevron in the middle of his top. Lastly add his nose and draw his face with edible markers.

Next is Snoopy on top of his red house :) Start off with piping the red house in alternate to create a dimension on the red house. Then add the green grass underneath, let it dry. Add Snoopy on the top and outline the grooves of the red house with black edible marker. Lastly paint the blade of the grass underneath the red house with gel colouring.
Snoopy & Charlie Brown Cookie - start off with skin colour icing and let it dry. Add his brown shoes and Snoopy's head & legs with white icing, let it dry. Add the reminder of the details as per photo below.
There is really no hard and fast rule as to which part of the icing we need to do first. I found the best way to learn is just to try things out, experiment with lots of different way and most of all have fun with it ;-)
