Because sometimes we just need an extra bit of magic in our lives ;-) And these cookies make me happy :) We made these cookies for a cookie swap with another cookie decorator in Australia :) And of course Claudia has reserved one set for her teacher as a welcome back present after she away away being sick for a while...she is so sweet :) These unicorn cookies takes a bit more time to do because of their colourful hair, but we have a step by step photo tutorial for you if you want to try making them :) Step 1: start with the body of the unicorn, fill with medium consistency white icing (see the first photo below - on the left side). Let the base white icing dry completely. Step 2: draw her eyes with edible marker and add the unicorn horn with a stiff consistency white icing. Step 3: add her mouth outline & nose with white outline consistency icing. You can mark out the areas for her hair if you like, but if you want to free-hand the hair you can do that too :) - see the photo below. Okay so while we are waiting to do the next step we prepared the icing for the unicorn hair. This is quite fun to do but probably best to do with a fresh icing rather than the ones from the fridge as sometimes the colours can separate. If you come across icing that the colour separated while being kept in the fridge, i would suggest re-freshing it by taking it out of the piping bag and put it into a bowl and stir with spatula until everything mixed thoroughly. You can also add a bit more icing sugar to bring a bit more life into it and thickening it a bit.
Okay so now you have the icing ready for the unicorn hair. But before we use that icing and proceed with that one last fun step, we painted the hoofs and the horn with gold lustre dust. And lastly, pipe the rainbow colour icing that we have prepared for the hair and do swirly motions - see picture below :) PS: As you can see in the unicorn hair below (picture on the right), we can't see the pink colour as its hidden in the middle as mentioned in my note above. A lesson learned for the next time ;-) Okay so here are a closer look at the unicorns after they are all done and ready to go :) Our next mission is to create the rainbow....because every unicorn always comes with a rainbow right? Well we think so anyway ;-) The rainbow is reasonbably simple to make. Step 1: Flood the cloud aread with white icing with medium consistency Step 2: Pipe the colours of the rainbow on top (for these we chose pink, yellow & blue), let it dry Step 3: Add the swirls on the white cloud with an outline consistency icing - see picture below Here are a plater of rainbows, sunshine and love heart cookies...i'm pretty sure every single one of us needs this platter in our lives :) So there you go. Hopefully this post brings a little happiness for you today, we have all the elements of magic here, sunshine, rainbows, love hearts and most importantly magical unicorns! :)
If you are going to try making these cuties please drop us a note, we would love to hear from you :) Have a magical day!

Aren't these doggy the cutest? We have been wanting to make them for agesss and only got a chance to do it now. Special thanks to our friend Kate from Say it with sweetness for making it possible to make these cookies ;-) They are fairly simple to make. Step 1: Use medium consistency red icing to create the red scarf around his neck. To create the polkadots, drop dots of white medium consistency icing while the red icing is still wet - we call this the 'wet on wet technique'. Let it crusted over/dry for a few minutes, and add the ties on the right side of the neck - see picture below. Step 2: Flood the remainder area with medium consistency black icing. Let it dry. Step 3: Pipe on the details such as its nose, eyes, hairlines and jawlines underneath the nose. That's all you need to do to finish this cute scotty dog :) If you prefer to look at videos of how to make these cuties you can visit my instagram account. Unfortunately i can't post videos here as my blog account has a limited capability. Here is the final look of the close ups :) Hope you are having a fabulous restful weekend ;-)
